Special Applications

MAXWELL'S 50 years of experience in solving nonstandard problems in machining internal and external forms is available to you at no charge.

We have no peers in designing precise, rugged, low cost, automatically actuated tooling. Provide us with the details of your requirement and we will provide a solution.

In many cases, the peculiar design of the part prevents the use of standard tools. Quite often, we can design a special using a substantial number of standard components deriving a "much less than expected" cost for special tooling.

A sampling of special types of tooling we offer fall into the following categories:

    1.   Deep hole groove, creating excessive overhang of cutting tools.

Maxwell provides full support of the cutter using unique toolholder nose and / or forward  bearing designs.

      2.   Workpiece interference creates inaccessible area for machining groove or similar form.

MAXWELL design offers extra long drive train housing and forward bearing support at the point of the cut.

      3.   Widely spaced or multiple grooves which create excessive cutting pressure with unsupported cutters.

MAXWELL design offers forward and / or back bearing supports to stabilize and strengthen cutting action.

      4.   Internal facing or counterboring required inside of workpiece normally inaccessible.

MAXWELL designs offer forward and / or back bearing supports to generate the cutting action required to machine inside faces.

      5.   Excessive overhang prevents multi-grooving operation because of deflection.

MAXWELL design provides for internal bearing supports at the point of each cut to allow for simultaneous groove machining. Where possible, use of throe away inserts dramatically reduces perishable tool cost.

      6.   Backfacing Requirement, Through relatively long bore, presents deflection problem for unsupported tooling.

MAXWELL automatic backfacing tool line provide for full support of the cutting tool at the point of the cut. Use of standard, indexable insert, where practical dramatically reduces perishable tool cost.

      7.   Machining a back counterbore in a casting / forging presents a problem with the corner or "fillet" of the rough casting.

MAXWELL'S automatic toolholders generate the cutting action from the bore outward so that the cutter is fully supported throughout its cut, and does not encounter the interrupted cutting action other designs do.
